FAQ

  • 1. What is breathwork and how does it work?

Breathwork is a powerful, intentional practice that uses guided breathing techniques to influence the mind, body and nervous system. At Breathe with Samreen, we practice Breathflow Integrative Breathwork, a trauma-informed approach that blends modern neuroscience, ancient breath traditions and somatic healing.

Breathwork can help regulate the nervous system, release stored emotions, and unlock deeper layers of awareness that may not be accessible through traditional dialogue-based therapies alone. By altering the breath, we can shift physiological states, activate the parasympathetic nervous system (rest and repair mode), and tap into the body's innate ability to heal.

    The benefits of breathwork include:

    - Emotional Release & Healing: Breathwork helps access and release unresolved emotions, trauma and stored tension in the body.

    - Nervous System Regulation: It supports stress relief, improved sleep and a greater sense of calm and clarity.

    - Physical Health & Energy: Conscious breathing improves oxygenation, circulation and detoxification, supporting digestion, immunity and even migraine relief.

    - Spiritual & Conscious Awareness: Breathwork opens the doorway to deeper self-exploration, intuition and expanded states of consciousness.

At Breathe with Samreen, breathwork is a practice— a bridge between mind, body, heart and soul. Whether you’re looking for stress relief, emotional release or a deeper connection to yourself, breathwork can meet you where you are.

  • Do I need any experience to start breathwork?

  • 2. Who is the Tribe for?

The Tribe is an online community space for those who want to integrate breathwork into their lives more deeply. The monthly Breathe with Samreen Tribe Sessions align with lunar cycles and seasonal energies, helping you reset, recharge and connect to your intentions. These sessions bridge science with spirituality, weaving together neuroscience, breath physiology, and trauma-informed techniques with ancient wisdom, energy work and the intelligence of the body.

    The Tribe is for:

    - Anyone curious about breathwork and looking for a safe, guided space to explore it.

    - People navigating stress, burnout or emotional overwhelm who want a practice to regulate their nervous system.

    - Individuals working through grief, trauma or healing journeys, seeking a somatic and energetic approach to release and restore.

    - Leaders, coaches, and professionals wanting to deepen their self-awareness, resilience and clarity.

The Tribe is a space where breathwork moves beyond practice—the integration of healing, attunement and deeper self-trust is seeded into everyday life. It’s a place to explore the intelligence of your breath in a way that is both grounded in research and open to the unseen forces that guide us.

  • 3. What can I expect in my first breathwork session? How should I prepare?

Breathwork is a deeply personal experience—each person comes to it with their own history, emotions and intentions. Some people are looking for stress relief, others for a way to process emotions or past experiences, and some simply want to deepen their connection to their purpose. We all have a different breathing signature.

Your first session will gently introduce you to the power of your breath, bringing awareness to any tension, stored emotions or patterns that may be influencing your well-being and livelihood. It is an opportunity to listen to your body in a new way, without pressure or expectation.

    What Happens in a Session?

    - Grounding & Intention Setting: We begin by checking in—what’s present for you right now? Rather than setting a fixed goal, we work with intentions, allowing space for whatever needs to emerge in the moment.

    - Breathwork Journey: The session will guide you through conscious, intentional breathing patterns that help shift energy, release tension and invite clarity.

    - Somatic & Energetic Support (Optional): I may incorporate gentle bodywork, energetic guidance and somatic awareness techniques to help restore balance. Touch is always optional and led by your comfort level.

    - Integration & Reflection: After the active breathwork phase, you’ll enter a deep state of relaxation where your nervous system recalibrates. We will close with time for reflection, helping you integrate whatever has surfaced.

    - Private Sessions vs. Group Sessions: In private sessions, we tailor the experience entirely to you, exploring specific themes or patterns that arise. In group sessions, you are supported by the collective energy of the space, guided with care to ensure you feel safe and held.

Sessions range from 75 to 120 minutes, depending on the format.

How to Prepare for Your First Session

    - Create a Comfortable Space (for online or at-home sessions): Choose a quiet place where you can fully relax without distractions.

    - Wear Comfortable Clothing: Breathwork can involve movement and full-body awareness, so wear something that allows for ease.

    - Eat Lightly Beforehand: A heavy meal can make deep breathing more difficult. Eating lightly a couple of hours before is best.

    - Stay Hydrated: Drink some water beforehand but not too much right before the session.

    - Have a Blanket & Cushion (Optional): Comfort is key—having support for your head or body can help you relax fully.

    - Come with an Open Mind: Breathwork is an experiential practice. There is no ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ way to experience it. Simply be present with whatever unfolds.

    - Consider Your Pets: Animals are highly attuned to energy shifts and may respond to your breathwork journey by becoming curious or protective. While their presence can be grounding, they may also distract you or pull you out of the process. For a deeper, uninterrupted experience, it’s best to have them in a separate room during your session.

Each session is an invitation to explore, release and reconnect—to your breath, your body, and the deeper intelligence that lives within you. In a group setting, this also means attuning to the collective energy, where shared presence can amplify healing, insight, and connection.

  • 4. What Happens to Your Body During Breathwork?

Breathwork is more than just deep breathing—it creates measurable physiological changes in your body, influencing your nervous system, brain function and overall well-being. Here’s what happens during a session:

    1. Activation of the Autonomic Nervous System

Breathwork modulates the autonomic nervous system, shifting between sympathetic activation (energising, releasing stored emotions) and parasympathetic activation (deep relaxation, healing and integration).

Faster, rhythmic breathing can increase oxygen delivery, enhance circulation, and release stored tension or emotions.

Slower, intentional breathing can calm the nervous system, reduce stress hormones and promote a deep sense of relaxation.

    2. Oxygen & Carbon Dioxide Balance

Your breathing rhythm affects oxygen (O₂) and carbon dioxide (CO₂) levels in the blood, which in turn influence:

    - pH levels in the body: Breathwork can create a temporary state of mild alkalosis (higher pH), which can enhance mental clarity and emotional release.

    - Vasodilation & circulation: Changes in CO₂ can improve blood flow, allowing oxygen to reach the brain and tissues more efficiently.

    - Release of stored trauma or emotion: Altered CO₂ levels can shift your awareness and help surface suppressed emotions for processing and release.

    3. Endorphin & Neurotransmitter Release

Breathwork influences brain chemistry in a way that can lead to:

    - Increased dopamine & serotonin: Promoting a sense of calm, clarity and emotional balance.

    - Endorphin release: Creating sensations of euphoria, relaxation or even deep emotional catharsis.

    - Non-ordinary states of consciousness: Certain breath patterns can activate the default mode network (DMN) in the brain, similar to meditation or psychedelic experiences, leading to expanded awareness, insight and deep connection.

    4. Detoxification & Cellular Rejuvenation

    - Increased oxygen intake supports detoxification, as the lungs eliminate up to 70% of bodily waste through respiration.

    - Improved lymphatic flow & circulation helps flush out toxins and stagnation from the body.

    - Breathwork stimulates the vagus nerve, which supports digestion, immune function and stress recovery.

    5. Release of Stored Emotions & Trauma

The body stores emotions and trauma in its tissues. Breathwork helps to:

    - Access and release deeply held stress patterns in the nervous system.

    - Shift emotional states by activating deeper layers of the subconscious.

    - Bring a sense of emotional clarity, safety and release without needing to intellectualise or verbalise the experience.

    Why This Matters

By working with the breath, we tap into a bridge between the conscious and unconscious, the body and mind, the scientific and the spiritual. Breathwork allows us to reset our physiological state, release stored patterns, and access a deeper, more attuned way of being.
